Dux of 2013 on the path to study medicine

Michelle Lachenicht is well on her way to becoming your new GP!

Michelle Lachenicht (Class of 2013) is now studying a Science degree at the University of Western Australia with the aim to study Medicine.

UWA now requires to students to complete an undergraduate degree in a Science discipline before entering the Medicine degree course. Michelle is studying Physiology.


Michelle Lachenicht graduated from John Wollaston in 2013. She attended the School from Year 8 to Year 12. Originally from South Africa, Michelle arrived in Australia with her family when she was five years old. They lived in Kalgoorlie and then moved to Perth. Michelle loved her time at John Wollaston and in 2013 was Head Prefect.

"We were a very close year group. In Year 12 the teachers were really focused on the students. "


For her Year 12 courses Michelle studied Chemistry, Physics, English, Mathematics, Mathematics Specialist and Japanese. Mid-year during Year 12 Michelle had to complete the UMAT interviews. A successful UMAT together with a strong ATAR result enabled Michelle to enter UWA's assured pathway into the Doctor of Medicine.


With many years of study ahead of her Michelle says "It is lucky that I love to study." Michelle thinks she would possibly like to become a GP, following in her mother's footsteps.
