SECONDARY SCHOOL

We encourage all children to strive to reach their personal best – and we firmly believe that each of them has a bright future.

The academic, pastoral care and co-curricular programmes across the Secondary School cater for all students as they experience significant physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual changes.

Students in Years 8 to 10 undertake a diverse curriculum in eight Learning Areas meeting the requirements of the Australian Curriculum. In Year 9 students begin specialising in elective units in The Arts, Languages, Physical Education and Technology and Enterprise. This flexibility allows them to find, develop and extend their strengths, talents and interests in courses such as Drama, Childcare, Music, Design, Claywork, Food and Hospitality, Materials and Design (Woods and Metals), Computing and Outdoor Education units.

We have steps in place to ensure that students entering Year 10 are aware of the prerequisites for senior school courses and receive course counselling for Years 11 and 12.

With courses chosen, students enter Years 11 and 12 with opportunities for university-bound or vocational qualifications, and complete work experience and training courses through partnerships with external providers.

Our university-bound students benefit from the Aspire and Outer Metropolitan Schools Programmes through the University of Western Australia, which allow them special access to UWA initiatives as well as scholarships.

Students interested in learning a trade or gaining a head start on a traineeship or apprenticeship can take part in the Vocational Education and Training package: attending school three days a week, completing work placements and training at independent or State Training Providers. Qualified teaching staff deliver Australian Quality Training Framework Certificates in areas such as Computing, Business, Furniture and Sport and Recreation.

Senior students are supported through the Value Added Programme, with its ongoing study and examination skills sessions, guest speakers, mentoring and after-school tutoring.
