STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Students at John Wollaston have a wide range of opportunities to contribute to the School. From classroom helpers to formal representation on student panels, the perspectives and thoughts of our students are valued.

Primary School

Students in Years 3 to 6, elect two Class Representatives, from each class, each semester. Class Representatives meet fortnightly and assist in coordinating events such as Lightning Lunches and the Book Week Assembly, as well as discussing and acting on issues that are important to their classmates.

In Term 4, Year 5 students are encouraged to nominate for leadership positions as Captains in Year 6. With the exception of Head Boy and Head Girl, Captains are elected for one semester.

Year 6 students also have the opportunity to train as Peer Mediators. They assist their peers in resolving playground disputes using active listening and shared responsibilities.

Secondary School

Each House elects a House Council with two students from Years 7 to 12 representing their House and year group. House Councillors meet regularly and assist in the running of House events throughout the year.

Year 10 students may assist Year 7 students when they visit John Wollaston for Orientation Day towards the end of the school year.

Year 11 students participate in a Peer Support Leader program, helping Year 8 students’ transition to Secondary School at the commencement of each school year. Year 11 students also have the opportunity to nominate as Prefects for Year 12. In Term 4, the Year 11 Prefects – Elect transition to their new portfolios handing over from the outgoing Year 12 Prefects. Year 12 students also have the opportunity to nominate as House Seniors, assisting the Heads of House with the day-to-day running of their House.

All student leaders are commissioned in Whole School services at the commencement of each semester.
