Easter

The final week of Term 1 has seen us gather as a School to celebrate Passiontide – the Easter story of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

The week began with a visit to Pre-Primary, demonstrating and speaking about the importance of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples. The children were very responsive in hearing that Jesus took on the role of a servant to clean stinky feet. There was much discussion about how cold the water was!

On Wednesday, we celebrated Easter in the Primary School with Years 1-6, led in singing by our fantastic choir as they performed the beautiful Easter hymn When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. The Captains read Gospel readings and prayers beautifully, and we ended the joyful, celebratory service with an action song, Great Great, Brill Brill, filled with fun and friendly competition.

Our Secondary service was much quieter, with pauses for reflection and silence. The focus was on Palm Sunday through to Easter Saturday, exploring the theme of the silence of God and of Easter Saturday – the pause between death and resurrection, between hopelessness and everlasting hope. A three-part drama was performed by Year 9, 10 and 12 students, and other students presented When I Survey the Wondrous Cross as a beautiful reflection on the Good Friday passion.

These were three very different ways to reflect on the beauty of the cross, and it is always a privilege to share the Easter story with students, staff and parents in meaningful ways.
