Pastoral

We believe character development is as important as academic progress. Strong relationships underpin the whole school journey. Our students’ lives are transformed through connection, creating a positive culture and opportunities to thrive. Our pastoral strategies are designed to embed social and emotional learning across all age groups.

Service Learning and Encounter experiences facilitate character development and personal growth. Students are challenged to be the best version of themselves, to be kind, resilient and confident in their abilities.

We aim to develop the whole child from the early years; one way we do this is through structured ‘Encounter’ experiences. The Encounter Program is unique to our school and offers important learning experiences for each year level which facilitate character development, resilience building and personal growth. Students enjoy the opportunity to test themselves in contexts outside the classroom in the company of their peers and the staff. For many students, Encounter is the highlight of their year.

Our pastoral care approach is underpinned by a vertical House System in the Secondary School where students of all ages are mixed. Seven groups operate in each of the four Houses – Charter, Hale, Ramsden and Scott – generating positive interactions throughout the year groups.

The School also has a full time counsellor on staff. This service is available to support both students and staff.
