Science Week

Science Week 2025 was a highlight of the year, filled with energy, discovery and hands-on fun. With the theme “Decoding the Universe – Exploring the Unknown,” students from both Primary and Secondary embraced a wide range of activities that brought science to life in exciting and memorable ways.

The week began on Monday with a buzzing drone demonstration that drew plenty of interest, followed by a lively paper plane competition. While it was open to all year levels, our Year 12s showed particular enthusiasm, bringing both skill and creativity to the challenge.

On Wednesday, science met imagination in two different spaces. Secondary students, guided by our Human Biology classes, extracted real DNA from fruit — a fascinating activity that made the invisible visible. Meanwhile in Primary, students had an afternoon of rockets and explosions. They launched pop rockets, experimented with fuel-powered rockets, and cheered loudly as the famous Mentos fountain bubbled and fizzed into action. The excitement was infectious and, for many, it became the highlight of the week.

Thursday shifted the focus to engineering and technology. Students explored robotics using First Lego League kits, experimented with coding through KodeClicks, and investigated gears and motion. The activities highlighted the creative and problem-solving side of science, giving students a chance to apply their learning in practical and fun ways.

The celebrations wrapped up on Friday with a spectacular chemistry showcase, led by the Academic Council. Students were amazed by giant bubbles, colourful lava lamps, dramatic dry ice demonstrations and, of course, the foamy eruption of elephant toothpaste.

Science Week 2025 reminded students that science is more than a subject in the classroom — it is a way of seeing and exploring the world.
