Book Week 2025

Book an Adventure is the theme of the 2025 Australian Book Week, running from 18 to 22 August.

Book Week is always a highlight on the John Wollaston calendar, and this year lived up to all expectations. A big thank you to Mrs Godfrey and Mr McLachlan, Library Coordinators and Mrs Campbell, Head of English, along with hardworking Primary Class Representatives and Prefects, who put together fun-filled lunchtime activities for students to enjoy through the week.

In Primary, the library had some fun activities during lunchtime as well as the classroom fun with a quiz and other fun games.  The week culminated in the Book Week Assembly on Friday morning, where the students and all their wonderful costumes were on show. We were treated to some amazing performances from the Primary Rock Band, the Year 3/4 Choir and of course the annual Staff Pantomime! A new addition to this year’s Book Week celebrations was the Treasure Hunt conducted with buddy classes and involving our Year 12 Prefects. It was wonderful to have the Prefects, along with our Year 7 students, to be a part of this Assembly.

In Secondary, students took part in the “Guess the Teacher’s Favourite Book” challenge, with many enjoying the chance to learn more about their teachers’ reading tastes! Others embraced the ‘Adventure Reading Challenge’, submitting creative photos of themselves reading in unusual places outside school. These wonderful entries are on display in the Library Resource Centre windows.  Each day featured something different. Students went on the hunt for golden tickets hidden inside books as part of the Library Scavenger Hunt, with different year groups taking part on different days. House Groups battled it out in a Wordle Challenge, with plenty of laughs along the way.  Book Week ended on a high with Friday’s Costume Parade. Held in the Technology Building, the parade was filled with colour and creativity, as students and staff arrived dressed as their favourite book characters. It was a wonderful way to wrap up the week and celebrate the joy that reading brings to our lives.  A pop-up book swap stand proved popular, giving students a chance to exchange their favourite stories with friends, while posters around the school highlighted must-read titles and inspiring authors for all to discover.
