FlexiTrack Uni Prep – A guaranteed pathway to university at JWACS

In partnership with Murdoch University, John Wollaston is introducing FlexiTrack Uni Prep – a university preparation pathway designed for students seeking a clear and supported transition into tertiary study.

What is FlexiTrack?

FlexiTrack is a university preparation program delivered at the School in partnership with Murdoch University. It provides a guaranteed entrance to university, designed for students who are capable of university study but may not be pursuing a traditional ATAR pathway.

Students complete a structured program focused on building the academic skills, independence and confidence required for university success.

Successful completion provides a guaranteed pathway into Murdoch University, with an ATAR equivalent of 70.

At present, Western Australian universities recognise each other’s preparation programs, meaning this pathway may also support entry into other institutions.

How the program works

  • Delivered at the School as a dedicated FlexiTrack class. Students study English and four other courses of their choice.
  • Runs through Year 12.
  • Minimum four hours per week in student timetable.
  • Supported by JWACS teachers and Murdoch University tutors.
  • Contributes towards WACE (endorsed program).

Students complete:

  • One core university preparation unit.
  • One elective aligned to future study interests (e.g. Business, Education, Health, Criminology).

Focus areas include:

  • Academic writing and research skills.
  • Critical thinking and analysis.
  • Communication and presentation.
  • Time management and independent learning.
  • Collaboration and self-regulation.
  • This program gives students a genuine experience of university-style learning while still at school.

Who is this pathway for?

FlexiTrack is ideal for students who:

  • Are not pursuing a full ATAR pathway.
  • Are on an ATAR pathway but at risk of not acheiving a score of 70.
  • Are completing a General or VET pathway but do not want to risk an alternative entry application.
  • Are capable of university study but would benefit from an alternative entry route.
  • Want a clear and supported transition to university.

FlexiTrack is not for students who wish to enter a university course with a cut off higher than 70.

Entry requirements:

  • B grade in General English, or
  • D grade in ATAR English or Literature

Students selected for this pathway will typically move away from a full ATAR program in Year 12 (though continuing to study one ATAR course can be helpful).

Key information

  • Offered to current Year 11 students in September each year.
  • Delivered in partnership with Murdoch University.
  • Cost: approximately $300 (fee support available for eligible students).

Why choose FlexiTrack at JWACS?

  • Guaranteed university entrance if you pass.
  • Strong academic skill development.
  • Personalised support within a school environment.
  • A confident transition into tertiary study.

We encourage you to speak with our Dean of Teaching and Learning, Scott Robertson, or the MYPath team to discuss whether this pathway is right for you.
