A vibrant new Nature Playground is coming to John Wollaston Anglican Community School’s Early
Learning Centre Kindergarten, thanks to funding from the Western Australian Government and the
generous support of Dr Tony Buti MLA, Member for Armadale.
This exciting initiative, now fully funded through a WA Government grant, will bring to life a
thoughtfully designed outdoor play space that nurtures curiosity and connection with the natural
world.
Principal, Tim Russell, expressed gratitude for the support:
‘We are incredibly grateful to Dr Buti and the WA Government for recognising the importance of
early childhood education and supporting this transformative project. The Nature Playground will
provide our youngest learners with opportunities to engage in imaginative, active and sensory-rich
play every day.’
Developed in close collaboration with John Wollaston staff and students, the new play space has
been designed to inspire learning through nature and movement. The plans feature:
• A dry creek bed and timber jetty
• A bespoke water feature flowing into a large sandpit
• Scramble nets, tightropes and an extended bike path
• Teepee structures, log seating, a swing daybed and sensory pathways
• A pulley system to spark curiosity and problem-solving
• Wooden tables and shaded gathering spaces for social and quiet play
This nature-inspired design aligns with the School’s commitment to nurturing the whole child –
supporting physical development, wellbeing, and early inquiry in a safe and engaging environment.
Construction of the new Nature Playground is scheduled to begin in December, and the School
looks forward to welcoming students and families to the new playground in 2026, where students
will discover, explore and learn well into the future.
