KATE HEWSON (NEE HOWELL), CLASS OF 2004
Primary Teacher, John Wollaston

I began my schooling at John Wollaston in 1998, when I was in Year 6, and was part of the first Years 6 and 7 double-stream classes. I graduated in 2004 and was Head Prefect.

Some of my fondest memories from my time at John Wollaston are the friendships I made that have lasted beyond our school years. School camps were also a highlight, in particular a two-week exchange to Japan in 2001, as they gave us opportunities for new experiences.

While at John Wollaston I was able to pursue a wide range of interests, including music, debating and languages, which I am able to draw on and incorporate into my teaching.
After graduating, I completed a Bachelor of Education, specialising in Science, at the University of Notre Dame. I began teaching at JWACS in 2010 and enjoy the collegiality amongst the staff, and the close working relationships we have. I have been given many opportunities for professional growth, so I have continued to learn and develop my teaching practice after university.

I would encourage all students at John Wollaston to become involved in the school community and to take advantage of the many opportunities that are offered.
