The English Learning Area at John Wollaston Anglican Community School develops students’ listening and speaking, viewing, reading and writing skills through the study of a wide range of texts in a learning environment that encourages critical and analytical thinking.
Students are encouraged to engage with the idea that language can shape our interpretation of the world and contributes to our critical and analytical thinking successes across all Learning Areas. Through a range of pedagogical strategies, students are given the opportunity to strengthen their communication skills in order to develop their own “voice” and become active participants in society.
Opportunities to extend and nurture the writing and communication experience of students is provided through the Emerging Writers Master Class programs, offered in Years 9 and 10.
