The Mathematics curriculum at John Wollaston focuses on fostering sophisticated mathematical understanding, fluency, logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. These capabilities equip students to tackle both familiar and unfamiliar situations by applying mathematical strategies, enabling them to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently.
In Years 8, 9, and 10, the Mathematics Learning Area implements the International Centre of Excellence for Education in Mathematics (ICE-EM) Program. This program emphasises teaching mental strategies for solving mathematical problems, with the goal of ensuring students grasp core mathematical concepts and can apply this knowledge to senior school courses.
In Senior Secondary, the Mathematics Learning Area offers a range of courses, including Mathematics Foundation, Mathematics Essentials General, Mathematics Applications ATAR, Mathematics Methods ATAR, and Mathematics Specialist ATAR. These courses provide students with various pathways to pursue, depending on their individual educational goals.
