John Wollaston Anglican Community School is proud to host a support program for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.

 

Through a partnership with Telethon Speech & Hearing (TSH), the School Support Program allows Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in Kindergarten to Year 12 to take a full and active part in mainstream school life. Students attend mainstream classes whilst receiving support and individual assistance from a Teacher of the Deaf. Individual assistance may include developing areas of language, speech, auditory and academic support tailored to meet the individual needs of the students

 

Children are assisted in the management of their audiological equipment, including hearing aids and cochlear implants. Education assistants provide support for children in the classroom and Notetakers provide support for secondary students in mainstream classes.

 

TSH staff are based on campus and run the program in partnership with the John Wollaston team. An audiologist, speech pathologist, occupational therapist and psychologist, based at the TSH Wembley campus, provide support and visit the School on a regular basis. 

 

John Wollaston Anglican Community School was the first Anglican school in WA to host a Telethon Speech and Hearing Outpost. This is a unique union for excellence in education for students with hearing loss and a fantastic resource for the south east metropolitan region.

 

For children with a hearing loss, the opportunity to access the same educational options as their mainstream peers is invaluable.

Talkabout 4 Program underway for 2024!

 

Telethon Speech and Hearing's (TSH) Talkabout Program has had a life-changing effect on hundreds of children with speech or language challenges.  Now, a new pilot Talkabout program in our Early Learning Centre is giving more families and children access to highly specialised education alongside health services such as speech therapy and occupational therapy.
